Abigail and Ellen's Web page

I am Abigail, I am 6 years old.  This is me and my sister Ellen, who is 5. In this picture we are making flap-jacks.

I am going to use my web page to tell you about our growing, cooking and eating.

Healthy Schools Week

This is me making a healthy fruit smoothy at school. I followed a recipe:

Ingredients:

2 bananas - good for lasting energy

4 apricots

5 tablespoons (75ml) of natural yogurt

10 tablespoons (150ml) of apple juice

Method:

1. Chop the bananas

2. Put the bananas in the blender

3. Put the apricots in the blender

4. Put the apple juice and yogurt in the blender.

5. Put the lid on!

6. Mix it in the blender.

Delicious!

I did some other things for Healthy Schools week too.

I designed a healthy lunch box.

We had a dance mat activity.

A dentist came in and talked about how to look after our teeth.

Note from Mum:

It's all too often that we hear about the state of the Nation's children in the news - poor diet, lack of exercise, lack of knowledge about which foods are good and bad and where food comes from.  It's a shame that positive initiatives like this don't get talked about so much.

Axbridge First School has a 'Healthy School' Award, assessed on a number of measures.  The Healthy Schools Co-ordinator, reception teacher Hannah Coles planned the Healthy Schools Week.  All week the children learned about 'being healthy'.

Here are some of the things they did:

All children had the opportunity to make and eat a healthy soup or smoothy.

All children designed a healthy lunchbox and children were encouraged to bring in heathy packed lunches all week.

A local farmer came in to talk to some year groups about healthy eating, fruit and vegetables and where they grow.

Miss Nash ran a dance mat activity day and a gymnastics teacher came in to work with the children.

Thanks to Miss Coles and to Mrs Fotune for the picture.

More pictures soon ......

This is Ellen's birthday. She was 4 years old in May.  We made this spider cake, because she loves Spider Man! Ellen doesn't normally like cakes, but she did like this one.
