Abigail and Ellen's Web page
It's all too often that we hear about the state of the Nation's children in the news - poor diet, lack of exercise, lack of knowledge about which foods are good and bad and where food comes from. It's a shame that positive initiatives like this don't get talked about so much.
Axbridge First School has a 'Healthy School' Award, assessed on a number of measures. The Healthy Schools Co-ordinator, reception teacher Hannah Coles planned the Healthy Schools Week. All week the children learned about 'being healthy'.
Here are some of the things they did:
All children had the opportunity to make and eat a healthy soup or smoothy.
All children designed a healthy lunchbox and children were encouraged to bring in heathy packed lunches all week.
A local farmer came in to talk to some year groups about healthy eating, fruit and vegetables and where they grow.
Miss Nash ran a dance mat activity day and a gymnastics teacher came in to work with the children.
Thanks to Miss Coles and to Mrs Fotune for the picture.
